Using the map format to introduce our charity

Hi

I work at the housing and homelessness charity Shelter in the UK, and I'm currently looking at different ideas on how to produce an introductory leaflet to explain the work that our organisation www.shelter.org.uk does, in a format that is new or interesting and is more likely to be kept rather than end up being read once and then discarded.

One idea that our design team has proposed is to create a map of a virtual town or neighbourhood, showing the different centres and services we have, info about the people we help, and some of the staff, along with other ways to get involved (eg: an athletics track annotated with information about how to do sponsored runs in aid of Shelter). The style that they proposed was similar to that of theme park guides, though obviously the main difference would be that they are actually geographical guides rather than a thematic map.

I was wondering whether you knew of any organisations / companies that had produced anything similar, and if so whether you could point me in the right direction, as I'd be really interesting in seeing anyone else's approaches.

Many thanks

Ben
