Map collaboration tool that basically enables multiple users to update /annotate a map in real-time; add points, edit points, draw routes, etc. The changes are immediately updated in the other browsers connected to the map. Multiple people can connect to the site and communicate via a built-in chat engine while updating or viewing the map. : http://placeshare.org/livemap.

THE FIVE PRINCIPLES OF MAP DESIGN : http://www.mckinleyville.com/cart/cabinet/cab_cartprinc.html
Concept before Compilation ... no design or content feature will be included which does not fit it. Design the whole before the part. Design comes in two stages, concept and parameters, and detail in execution.
Hierarchy with Harmony ... Lesser things have their place and should serve to complement the important. From the whole to the part, and all the parts, contributing to the whole.
Simplicity from Sacrifice ... Its not what you put in that makes a great map but what you take out. .. Content may determine scale or scale may determine content, and each determines the level of generalization (sacrifice).
Maximum Information at Minimum Cost ..
How much information can be gained from this map, at a glance. ... The spark which makes a map special often only comes when the map is complete.
Engage the Emotion to Engage the Understanding ... Good designers use Cartographic fictions, Cartographic impressions, Cartographic illusions to make a map. Only when the reader engages the emotion, the desire, will they be receptive to the map's message. .. Focusing the attention is the purpose of map design!

"... long, long ago you were entrusted with an editor's pen, of sorts, so if you'd like to write in the margins, take center stage, or just doodle, I'll guarantee you there'll be readers." - T.U.
