Top Wikipedia (map-related?) volunteers; Seth Ilys (#9 )has been a geography nut since he was a kid. At age 5 or 6, he said, he made his own little atlases. Like Derek Ramsey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ram-Man), Ilys devotes most of his Wikipedia efforts to bolstering the project's U.S. geography articles, particularly by adding maps.

Everything, by Guillermo Kuitca (http://www.speronewestwater.com/cgi-bin/iowa/artists/related.html?record=6&info=works&view=Inventory%20Number&item=13) is an impressive four-panel painting which interpolates fragments of American road maps. The enigmatic veined surface invites the viewer for closer inspection where one can identify the names of locations; painstakingly woven in parts. Devoid of any beginning, end, or coordinates, places dissolve within some larger unknown entity of no geographical order. http://www.artdaily.com/section/news/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=12908 Kuitca's specialty is maps, maps in the broadest sense of the term, maps as diagrams of both spatial and temporal relationships. He has painted family trees, the floor plans of stadiums, apartments and prisons, the seating arrangements of theaters, the street plans of cities (in one case creating a grid of city blocks composed of hypodermic syringes). He has transposed the topography of countries onto the hollow-pocked surfaces of mattresses and has tackled his theme with the broad- est possible range of painterly techniques. The results are often extremely handsome abstract paintings with a referential twist. http://artscenecal.com/ArticlesFile/Archive/Articles1999/Articles0299/GKuitcaA.html
