A roadmap is a visual representation of a sequence of steps along a timeline that depends on a roadmapping process to capture and organize the information and knowledge represented, a generic roadmap template might consist of:
a timeline (know-when), e.g. a 2-5 year deliverable lifecycle
a purpose layer (know-why), e.g. business or market objectives
a delivery layer (know-what), e.g. a product or service deliverable
a resources layer (know-how), e.g. technology or competency support
Links exist between the steps within a roadmap layer, between steps across roadmap layers and between roadmap steps and other information entities "submerged" within the roadmap logic. For example, a roadmap step may be linked to a project plan or an engineering diagram, which in turn is held in a separate project management or CAD application. : http://www.intelligententerprise.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=57700849

If the Industrial Age was built on people's backs, and the Information Age on people's left hemispheres, the Conceptual Age is being built on people's right hemispheres. "In a world upended by outsourcing, deluged with data, and choked with choices, the abilities that matter most are now closer in spirit to the specialties of the right hemisphere - artistry, empathy, seeing the big picture, and pursuing the transcendent." http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.02/brain.html We've progressed from a society of farmers to a society of factory workers to a society of knowledge workers. And now we're progressing yet again - to a society of creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers. .. High concept involves the ability to create artistic and emotional beauty, to detect patterns and opportunities, to craft a satisfying narrative, and to come up with inventions the world didn't know it was missing. "Making Art From Bits and Pieces" : Every day, Mr. Evans would sit down with an inexpensive notebook, turn to a blank page and paste some of this discarded ephemera against a painted background, creating a collage. Dave Pollard, author of the How to Save the World Weblog, has become a growing proponent of mind mapping software, as he reports in a post from earlier this week. 'Mind-mapping' as Wikipedia puts it, "a radial diagram that represents semantic connections between learned material". It's not significantly different from 'outlining', except that, for some reason, the graphical layouts of mind maps are more comprehensible, easier to grasp and follow, and aesthetically superior to the linear, multi-layered indentation of outliners. ... "Perhaps the graphic layout stimulates the right brain and gets you thinking about how ideas and information relate to other ideas and information, pulls you out of your linear thinking habits. I even wonder whether in some way the mind map mimics the way the neurons in the brain are organized, the way they make connections across space." http://blogs.salon.com/0002007/categories/businessInnovation/2005/01/05.html#a1005

Microsoft had essentially given up on Internet Explorer development - focusing instead on its next-gen OS, Longhorn. With Longhorn, the company hopes to make the stand-alone browser obsolete by incorporating Web browsing into the desktop. As part of the transition, Microsoft has created the developer language XAML, an heir to HTML. Until a few months ago, it looked like the shift to Longhorn would give Microsoft control of the Web's de facto standards. Now, with Microsoft's share in the browser market slipping - IE has lost 5 percent in the past six months, almost all of it to Firefox - Web designers can't afford to ignore the standards of Tim Berners-Lee's W3C, which Mozilla has hewed to but which Microsoft has regarded as strictly optional. Which means Bill Gates' troops must now turn back to IE and battle the ghost of Netscape. ...Google has hired the lead engineer behind the Firefox web browser, fueling speculation that Google will create its own version of the software to take on Microsoft's dominant Internet Explorer.

Firefox ( http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/ ) code is all open source, which allows users to “get under the hood” and see the code for themselves. This makes it very easy for anyone to write extensions that can add functionality to Firefox, and there are currently 178 extensions on a list that is continually growing (strong user loyalty and grassroots campaign to “SpreadFirefox”). That's where Firefox, Mozilla foundation's latest browser comes in. It's the IE killer! Firefox's source code is open and there is a standing invitation for anyone who's interested to write code that enhances Firefox's already robust list of features. When a developer writes a piece of code for Firefox it's known as an extension. Currently there are 178 and the list is growing all the time. The Intranet Roadmap does more than just indicate what activities need to be conducted, it clearly shows the sequence of activities required, and the techniques that will help at every stage of the project. : http://steptwo.com.au/products/roadmap/

Wu-Wei: A uniquely Taoist concept is wu-wei, non-action. This does not mean no action, but rather not exceeding spontaneous action that accords with needs as they naturally arise; not indulging in calculated action and not acting so as to exceed the very minimum required for effective results.
This is not 'doing without doing' it is simply 'doing'. To use Wu Wei is to have a kind of Taoist patience - it is to allow things to unfold in their own way, in their own time. This does not imply a complete lack of energy expenditure - just a recognition of the flow and cycles of the world around us. Acting at the appropriate
time with the appropriate amount of force is the key
. By appreciating at a more subtle level what is happening around him, holding onto nothing, and acting with simplicity the Taoist can flow with the Tao, and will always be in the right place at the right time. The Taoist master becomes like the Tao itself - he does nothing, yet nothing is not done....Our contemporary expression, "going with the flow," is a direct expression of this fundamental Taoist principle, which in its most basic form refers to behavior occurring in response to the flow of the Tao...We develop and trust our intuition as our direct connection to the Tao...Wu-wei also implies action that is spontaneous, natural, and effortless...Chuang Tzu refers to this type of being in the world as flowing, or more poetically (and provocatively), as "purposeless wandering!" To allow oneself to "wander without purpose" can be frightening because it challenges some of our most basic assumptions about life, about who we are as humans, and about our role in the world. .. And finally, in the words of Chuang Tzu, we learn "detachment, forgetfulness of results, and abandonment of all hope of profit." Thus it is that without moving you shall know, without looking you shall see, without doing you shall achieve. By http://members.aol.com/MrSage365/Taoist.html

Viewing map as a PDF file which can be magnified to show more detail : http://www.nnp.org/Maps_files/descriptions.htm#14

Whereas the magnification lens only shows two levels of details of the same map, a fish eye lens shows the map at decreasing magnification factors with increasing distance from the mouse pointer, thus providing a smooth transition between both levels of detail. http://www.webmapper.net/maps/navigation/zooming/lens/
